Can be cooked as a vegetable or eaten as a fruit when ripe, even the seeds are eaten as snack after being boiled, usually in salted water. The fruit is cut open to reveal numerous yellow sacks of pulp, each one has a seed. These pulp sacs are quite pleasant tasting, a similar taste to a mild pineapple.
